Well, we made it to the end of wrestling! I may have a few more grey hairs than I did before we started this, but I think both of my boys have grown tremendously from doing this tough sport. Before the season started I really had no idea what to expect and thought since my boys had a little bit of Aiken blood in them that they would be naturally good at this sport. (Not only did both of my brothers wrestle in high school, but my dad wrestled in college) So I thought I was tough since I have spent a whole lot of time watching the sport as well as being the practice dummy. Well, I was in for a shocker rude awakening! These kids knew moves most high school kids didn't know.
Buie was in the 6 and under 60lb class and Mason was in the 8and under 54lb class and they both did awesome this year. Mason completed 3 tournaments and Buie quit his first one mid way through and wouldn't even walk out on the mat for his second tournament and my dad talked him into doing the state qualifying tournament and low and behold, he won the whole thing. Mason finished fourth in his bracket So naturally we HAD to go to the state tournament this past weekend up in Pickens Co.
Mason decided that he did not want to wrestle in the tournament, but Buie took a shot at it. He lost his first match, won his second and lost his third. We soon found out that this was a much different tournament than all the others and most of these kids wrestle all year long and have been doing it for a couple of years. With that being said, we are sooooooo proud of Buie and Mason for even qualifying for the state tournament in their first year of wrestling.
They were very proud of their medals at the state qualifier.
Buie in his 3rd match at state.
Can you see his face? NOT happy!
He fought hard though.
Now on to baseball.....
Mason has moved up to Pinto league, which is still coach pitch, but the kids are really grasping the whole concept of baseball. They get strikes and catch the ball, it's amazing the progress.
Thank goodness he's still fast!
Looking serious running the bases.
